Kasbah of the Oudayas
Blue-and-white residential lanes, fortified gateways and an Atlantic-facing setting. The garden is part of the pleasure; respect the doorways and homes around you.
Morocco · The Atlantic capital
A capital with room to breathe.
Garden paths, ocean air and centuries of history, with time to sit down between them.

Rabat’s pleasure is the space between its landmarks. You can move from blue-and-white lanes in the Oudayas to a garden bench, then spend the afternoon among the columns of an unfinished mosque. The sea and the Bouregreg estuary keep coming back into view.
It gives you a feel for Morocco as a country people live and work in today: trams, cafés, broad avenues and contemporary art alongside older monuments. We like it when a journey needs both cultural depth and a little breathing room.
A suggested rhythm, shaped around your interests and pace. Your confirmed itinerary sets out the visits, activities and meals included.
Begin in the Kasbah of the Oudayas while the lanes are quieter. Take your time in the Andalusian Garden, then pause for mint tea with a view towards the water.
Visit Hassan Tower and the Mohammed V Mausoleum, leaving time to look at the craft as well as the scale. Choose Chellah for archaeology or the Mohammed VI Museum for modern and contemporary art.
Return through the medina for browsing and dinner, or take a walk by the Bouregreg. This is a good evening to leave unscheduled rather than chase another attraction.

The unfinished twelfth-century minaret and neighbouring royal mausoleum bring very different chapters of Moroccan history together.
Roman remains and a later Islamic necropolis in one archaeological site. Allow time to wander and understand the layers.
An opportunity to add modern and contemporary Moroccan art to a journey often dominated by historic buildings.
One full day gives you a satisfying introduction. Two nights make room for the major sights without rushing your arrival and departure; an extra day suits art lovers or anyone who wants a slower capital stay.
A medina riad gives you atmosphere and walks from the door. A central hotel can simplify vehicle access. The attractions are spread out, so mix walking with short vehicle journeys rather than expect one continuous medina circuit.
Rabat is usually a gentler city stop than Marrakech, but it is still a working capital. The kasbah has steps and uneven paving. Bring a layer for the waterfront and dress respectfully for the mausoleum; visits depend on access on the day.
By road with a private driver: Casablanca 1 hour 15 minutes, Fes 2.5 hours, Oualidia 3 hours. Rabat has its own airport, Rabat-Sale.
Rabat adds royal history, gardens and modern culture to a route through Casablanca, Fes or the north. We would give it proper time when you enjoy cities at a measured pace. On a very short trip, we would weigh that against adding another transfer.
